Michael L. Browder, Sr. has dedicated more than three decades to advancing affordable housing, real estate development, and public service. He has held senior leadership roles at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), including Deputy Regional Administrator, Field Office Director, and Director of Administrative Services, where he directed strategic initiatives, interdepartmental communications, and organizational development. His contributions have been recognized as part of teams receiving the Federal Gears of Government Award, the HUD Coin of Excellence Award, and the HUD Secretary’s Award.
As Senior Advisor for HUD’s Veterans Affinity Group and STEM Innovation Networks (STEMNet), Michael has been instrumental in building a national coalition that empowers underserved youth through hands-on STEM education. His leadership has helped create transformative opportunities in partnership with engineers, developers, housing authorities, faith organizations, ROTC programs, and cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Under his guidance, STEMNet has facilitated STEM camps for more than 1,000 K–12 students, launched a flight simulator program with Aviation Heritage Park at Bowling Green Housing Authority, and organized the STEM Expo at the HBCUNY Classic at MetLife Stadium.
Through these efforts, Michael has emphasized mentorship, character development, and workforce readiness – ensuring that youth not only gain technical skills but also the confidence and discipline to succeed in higher education and STEM careers. His lifelong commitment to community development and innovation reflects the spirit of the Purple Diamond Awards and makes him a distinguished recipient of the Circle of Honor Award.
